Prevention of infection in any elective surgery is the most important key performance indicator. The aim of the good centers for surgery is to have zero infection rate. It is a great accomplishment and it measures the standard of care. Elective gallbladder and hernia surgery is associated with zero infection rates. Contaminated and emergency surgeries should have appropriate antibiotic cover to prevent the SSI (surgical site infections). Full protocols should be followed to maintain the care.
